Outreach

Its responsibilities are to:

  • keep informed about political and social issues in the community and world, to encourage study and discussion of these within the congregation and to provide channels for responsible action

  • educate the congregation regarding the Mission and Service of the Church

  • encourage ecumenism through cooperation with other churches, faith groups, and social agencies in worship and community services (e.g. Food Bank, World Day of Prayer)

  • respond to needs and concerns of the Church and Community ... e.g. the benevolent fund (keep a record), donations to such groups as the Bible Society and Alcohol and Drug Concerns, making facilities available for community needs,

  • encourage communications between the Church and community, and within the congregation

  • reach out to individuals in the community to share the love of God through Christ as we experience the reality of what that means in a caring congregation

  • promote the United Church Observer to members and others in the community, e.g. doctors' offices

Outreach is:

  • intentional – It is planned, not reactive

  • personal – It has a face

  • reciprocal – Both the giver and receiver benefit

  • necessary – As a disciple of Christ we are called to act.
