Building Our Future Update as of May 18, 2017

Thank You!

The AUC Finance Committee would like to recognize Lorraine Armstrong, who will be leaving Aurora and AUC community in the near future.  For several years now, Lorraine has tirelessly volunteered at AUC on Monday mornings to do the counting of the weekly offering.  Her contribution to helping manage the weekly offering has not been visible to most people, but on behalf of Finance we would like to thank her for her reliability and accuracy over the years.  We wish Lorraine all the best in her move to a new community. 3rd Aurora Scouts

We need your help!   You could provide the best experience a child has each week!  3rd Aurora Scouting needs more Leaders to run these sections in the Fall

  • Beaver (age 5-7)
  • Leaders,Cub( ages 8-10)

We also would like to re-open a Scout (10-14) section and have 4 youth waiting for Leaders! Scouts Canada requires us to have a minimum of 3 people to sit on group committee that are not also registered as Leaders in the sections.

Please consider joining as Group Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Quartermaster (1 hr meeting /month on average - with only 9 meetings per year). Youth need adults to make this happen. There is a long waiting list for children to join scouting. Youth are eager to get into such a great program! All training provided (on-line with support).

How about Popcorn or Apple day coordinator ( 1 time events). Why not join with a friend? If you can’t join, will you help find someone who would be interested? An adult offspring, grandparent, or neighbour?

Part time leaders and new Canadians welcome!   Please see www.scouts.ca/ca/volunteer, or call or email  Cheryl Stoltz at canoetrippers@rogers.com or  905-830-0720

Silence of the Songbirds by Bridget Stutchbury
Migratory songbirds are disappearing at a frightening rate. By some estimates, we may have already lost almost half the songbirds that filled the skies only 40 years ago.   Following the birds on their 10,000-kilometre migratory journey, Bridget Stutchbury looks at the most threatening factors in their extinction, from pesticides, to the destruction of vital habitat; from the bright lights and structures in our cities to climate change.   We may well wake up in the near future and hear no songbirds singing. We won’t only be missing their cheery calls, we’ll be missing a vital part of our ecosystem.

AUC ARCHIVE REBOOT!

We’d like to rebuild our AUC archives and we need your help!

Over the course of the next several Sundays Bob Kyriakides, David Pilkey and Lloyd Kerswill will let you know details about the items they’d  like to borrow from you so they can reboot our AUC Archives. You’ll find out which days and evenings you’ll be able to drop material off and when you an expect to get it back. Stay tuned for details.
