Journey to Lent 2018

Journey to Lent 2018

The Worship Committee invites you to step onto the Lenten Pathway with the theme-LIVE/LOVE/LENT before us-ready to participate in a revolution of kindness-to oppose the perceived darkness of our present world by simply being kind. Holding Luke 6:31 before us,
to ‘do to others as you would have them do to you’, we invite you to mark the forty days of the Lenten season by looking inward and by acting outwardly to express the love we have known as followers of Jesus. So, let us be mindful of those who walk beside us on the journey to Jerusalem, acknowledging their humanity; let us look at our neighbours with a renewed sense of how love can transform the world.

You may LIVE/LOVE/LENT by participating in the following ways:

Each week a jar of ‘hearts’ will be placed on the Communion table. You are invited to take these hearts and share them with friends and family and beyond-to your co-workers or neighbours; leave them anonymously- tuck one into a lunch pails or pockets … anywhere a little love would make a difference!

Children will be invited to paint/decorate hearts in a craft area, set up in the sanctuary during coffee time each week.

The Lenten print resource, Why I Believe’: Daily Devotions on Faith & Belief edited by Alydia Smith is available now in the entranceway and through the church office. $15.00

#Do1NiceThing—log on to this wonderful site which outlines one nice thing you can do every day of the Lenten season or print out a copy below. Copies also available on Sundays or through the church office.

Check out the Arts & Faith video postings below. A classic work of art will be discussed as it relates to the observances we keep in the Lenten season.

Arts and Faith Through Lent...

Enter into a visual prayer experience this Lent with Arts & Faith: Lent. Each week we’ll provide a video commentary about a work of art inspired by the Sunday Scriptures. Use these videos to take a new look at this season of spiritual renewal through the lens of sacred art.

daniella-zsupan-jerome

Commentary is by Daniella Zsupan-Jerome, assistant professor of liturgy, catechesis, and evangelization at Loyola University New Orleans. She holds a bachelor’s degree in theology from the University of Notre Dame, a master’s degree in liturgy from St. John’s University in Collegeville, a master’s degree in religion and the arts from Yale Divinity School, and a Ph.D. in theology and education from Boston College. Her unique background in faith and art brings to life a new way of observing Lent and understanding the season on a more personal level.
