To the Congregation of Aurora United Church,
We hope and pray that you have been keeping as well as can be expected during these times.
As you may be aware, the Aurora United Church Council recently developed and administered an online survey to discern the sentiment and “mood” of our congregation regarding the potential return to in-person worship and meetings during the pandemic. We have completed that survey process and would like to provide you with a summary of the results, and also make the results available for you to review via web link.
In summary, the overwhelming majority of survey respondents indicated that they are not inclined to return to in-person worship and meetings until there is a vaccine available or the virus is no longer a threat. Given that our Online Worship Experience has been continuing to strengthen with each successive Sunday (and we can thank wholeheartedly Reverends Lorraine and Andy, along with the tireless efforts of all of the volunteers that make it happen - you know who you are), we feel that it is best for everyone for AUC to continue to worship online for the foreseeable future. It is important to note here that we the Council always apply two overriding decision-making criteria in discerning the direction for the type of worship we can and should provide during these challenging times - 1) Safety of all people involved, and 2) Quality of the worship experience. With safety continuing to be of paramount concern, and with the quality of an in-person worship experience severely compromised by the ongoing provincial restrictions for in-person gatherings, we feel this to be the most prudent decision for AUC for the time being.
As always, we will continue to monitor this situation closely and will inform you of any changes to this view. Here is the link to the survey results:
We continue to keep our whole congregation and staff in our hearts, minds and prayers during this time.
