COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD

This award is presented to an individual, business or community organization that has significantly enhanced the Town through their contribution, commitment, and leadership in the areas of charitable giving, civic engagement, community events or community spirit.

Welcoming Arms has been serving those in need in Aurora since 2006. Their dedicated volunteers serve a dinner on Wednesdays to more than 150 people from the community, allowing them a hot meal and great company, in addition to serving more than 50 people a hot lunch on Thursdays.  They also serve over 140 people per month through their “Bridging the Gap” outreach program, proving grocery gift card support, toiletries, and guidance to access other public supports. They help co-ordinate a Christmas Dream Dinner which is a warm, a celebratory meal open to those who cannot afford to provide one themselves or might be spending Christmas Day alone.  Their community support doesn’t stop at meals, Welcoming Arms also partners with accountants each year who volunteer their time and knowledge to help those in need with a free income tax clinic. The services that Welcoming Arms offer have continued, even throughout the pandemic, as they pivoted by changing their sit-down meal to a takeout and drive thru style and will continue for time to come. Welcoming Arms is a true community leader and community supporter.
