Once again, we are making our way through Holy Week to Easter, isolated and distanced from our extended families and our church. This is not the kind of Easter we are used to experiencing together. We have given up so much more this past year than in any other year most of us can remember. Like last year, maybe Easter will be more meaningful for some measured by how much we have given up.
We will celebrate on Easter morning, but not all at one time or in one space as we have for other Easter days. With the distribution of vaccines, we have new hope for an end to this pandemic, and one day soon we will hear one another sing, “Jesus Christ is risen today, Alleluia!”
A tomb sealed with a rock could not keep God out or Jesus in. Closed church doors will not stop the Alleluias, and they will not stop the triumph of life over death. Closed church doors will not stop our church from proclaiming Easter hope during the COVID-19 crisis, when our community and our world needs to hear a message of hope!
The mission and ministry of our church didn’t stop twelve months ago when we received the word that we needed to close our doors to slow the spread of the virus. In some ways, the demands of our mission and ministry became more challenging. We are needed now more than ever. In the same way, we would normally be presenting our Easter offering in person, but again this will not be possible this year.
This year's Easter offering will go a long way for our church to offer ministry to those in need due to this crisis. You may send your special Easter gift to Aurora United Church, 15186 Yonge Street, Aurora, ON L4G 1L9, or drop off at the church (secure mailbox by the parking lot doors.) You can also make your gift via e-transfer with the notation “Easter gift” in the comment box. Please see the process on how to e-transfer at the end of this letter. Once again, we appreciate your ongoing contributions and special gifts, all of which keep AUC vibrant and present within the life of the community and the church at large.
In Easter hope and with heartfelt thanks for your support,
