Lois Wilson has lived many lives during her 96 years: a United Church Minister, a Senator, a human rights advocate and an inspiration to many — exhibiting a humility that can only be described as steadfast. For the Sake of the Common Good: Essays in Honour of Lois Wilson is a tribute to the life and work of a remarkable Canadian. 

For the Sake of the Common Good: Essays in Honour of Lois Wilson is an essay collection that highlights the work of Lois Wilson with human rights defenders and social justice activists around the world. The book brings together the tributes of recognized figures, including Louise Arbour, Alia Hoben and Brent Hawkes, who were influenced by Wilson's dedication to peace, progressive values and Christianity. The essays explore the creation of the common good, the promotion of religious rights and the end of oppression for all.  

Wilson is a United Church minister and community organizer from Winnipeg. She is the first female moderator of the United Church of Canada and first female president of the Canadian Council of Churches. Wilson was appointed by several Canadian governments to lead missions in Guatemala, Sudan, El Salvador, Korea and other countries.
