45th General Council Opens, Moderator Nominees Confirmed

The 45th General Council is officially underway! Around 450 people joined online for the opening session, which included a lively worship service and the passing of key procedural motions.

Five ordained ministers were confirmed as nominees for the next Moderator of The United Church of Canada. These nominees will stand for election on August 9 in Calgary, Alberta, with the new Moderator's installation on August 11.

The nominees are:

• Rev. Dr. Samuel V. Dansokho
• Rev. Dr. John Pentland
• Rev. Dr. Cheri DiNovo, CM
• Rev. Dr. Kimberly Heath
• Rev. Sungmin Jung
