In 2019, Anne Ella-Arnold, coordinator of the Prayer Shawl Ministry at A.U.C., was contacted by Mary Elizabeth Piercy of the United Centre for Theological Studies of the University of Winnipeg. She was doing a research study on how Prayer Shawl Groups in the United Church of Canada are started and sustained in today’s busy world. So in November of that year, seven members of Crafters’ Circle met with her to be interviewed at one of our afternoon gatherings. Mary Elizabeth’s eventual hope was that this research would be used in the writing, defending, and publication of her thesis paper, “Shaping Post-Christendom Spiritual Practice in the United Church of Canada, One Prayer Shawl at a Time.” And now her thesis has been made available to us.
